Arabian Nights -not quite

Bloged in Balad IQ, Gibberish by SKi Sunday February 12, 2006

I feel a little weird. It’s Sunday night, clear skies, no wind to speak of. It’s relatively quiet and it has been for the past few days. I am not complaining of course. I wonder if it is actually quiet, or if I am deaf from the F-16’s taking off, or the C-RAM gun testing, or the C-17 landings all within 100-300 yards of me.

With all this anti-action, it’s leaving a pretty dull blog :( I will have to start having some wicked cool dreams and posting them here or something… I dunno. Maybe I’ll hit the hospital for a little volunteer time this week. I am sure there will be something to talk about from that. Whether or not I will want to is a different story.

They say the term “Arabian Nights” is used to describe the clear nights with a warm breeze blowing. The bright moon in the sky with the stars in chorus. It’s supposed to be very surreal. I suspect I will get to see that before I leave here. It’s not quite there yet though, but still, not bad.

It could be worse right? I could be shovelling snow~

Eats!!

Bloged in Balad IQ by SKi Friday February 10, 2006

Every time I go to chow, they (the TCN servers) PILE my plate to the max! I don’t know if I just look like I need to eat or what? I don’t think they understand that no matter how much I eat I don’t gain weight.

I have been eating 3-4 times a day - SOLID - since I have been here. I have not gained an ounce!! What gives?!?!

Tonight I had a salad, 2 salisbury steaks, potato slices, broccoli, rice and gravy, slice of cake, a mountain dew, sprite, OJ, and half a liter of water…

In the morning I typically have biscuits n gravy, bacon, sausage patty, ham, two eggs easy over, two slices of toast with butter and jelly (to sop up the eggs with mmmm), various fruit slices, two OJ and french bread or pancakes with syrup.

At lunch I usually make some sandwiches. Two tuna, a pastrami or ham, a bag of chips, two OJ. That would be the equivalent to my midnight snack, since I am working nights.

And for dinner.. it all depends on the night. Last Wed was surf n turf. TWO (14oz at least) steaks, crab (not legs.. the whole crab), lobster and the various normal sides of veggies or starchy things.

Two weeks… and not a pound gained. *sigh*

Looks like the cyber cops have let me access Zarebski.com again. Woo hoo. So I have added some content to the blog from my notes. I will be adding more as time goes on, but I think I will focus on maintaining the daily blog from this point on, and then adding the days that were missed (from memory, and we all know how my memory is) as time permits.

Oh, did you notice the desert theme?? I’m sure you did :) nice touch eh?

180

Bloged in Balad IQ, Gibberish by SKi Thursday February 9, 2006

I saw something today I never though I would see… I saw a C-17 do a 180 on a runway. I had imagined this before, and it’s probably no big deal in the grand scheme of things… but I thought it to be quite impressive.

It landed, and came to a stop in the middle of the runway. It was dark so what I saw was more of a silhouette, except for the lights on the plane itself. It started to turn. The massive engines on the wings spun up and their exhaust kicked up the dirt and dust from the sides of the concrete pad. It created a pretty imaginative image.
